Nav Varsh Samaroh : The Mega Cultural Event
Being the pioneer to protect and revitalise the cultural heritage Alok had initiated to celebrate the New Year as on beginning of Vikram Samvat. It is one of the great tasks Alok took over as its social responsibility.
Alok organises and Udaipur celebrates the last eve of the year Vikram Samvat as the 'Nav Varsh Samaroh', the biggest mega event of City. Farewell and Welcome ‘Alvida and Swagat Samaroh’ is the main part of ‘Nav Varsh Mahotsav’ organised at mass level with active public participation. The huge function is conducted and managed by Alok, witnessed and enjoyed by lakhs of citizens of Lake city Udaipur every year on the bank of Lake Doodh Talai (Pichola) surrounded by hilly crown of city, the Machala Magra. The ‘Nav Varsh Samaroh’ is celebrated in traditional manner with warm welcome through Vedic cultural rituals like Mantrocchar, Yagya, Arti-Puja, followed by magnificent show of the fireworks “Atishbaazi”. Next day on the occasion of the first day of the New Year Alokites visit in groups and greet to citizens. During the New Year ‘Samaroh’ a series of programmes is conducted and organised by Alok.
And this is a part of the national event of Happy New Year Vikram Samvat celebrated all over the country. This day is celebrated with greater enthusiasm in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat. Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. For the citizens of these States, Chaitra Shukla Pratipada also known as Yugadi Ugadi, Varsha Pratipada, Cheti Chand etc, is the most auspicious day to begin the year.
Whereas, the citizens in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Punjab, Kashmir and the neighbouring Nepal celebrate their new year day, the first day of the month of Vaishakh, called Baishakhi, its variation in the West Bengal, Assam and Orissa, Rangoli Bihu and Baishakh ek Gatey in Nepal.
